Sophie is a Sleep Evangelist at Big Health, a pioneering digital health company

Big Health creates automated behavioural medicine programs fuelled by tracked data. Big Health’s first product, Sleepio, is clinically proven to help overcome even long term poor sleep. Sophie has worked with healthcare providers and employers to test the impact of Sleepio delivered at scale. Before joining Big Health, Sophie completed a PhD in Health Psychology at UCL. Her research interests include the mechanisms linking sleep, work stress, happiness and heart disease. When she’s not sleeping, or talking about it, Sophie also teaches Public Health at the University of Southampton.

2018 Update: Two years after Sophie’s talk debuted at TEDxNHS, Sleepio is now available entirely free for all patients living and working in Greater London, covering a population of over 8 million. Access to Sleepio is funded by all 32 London CCGs and the majority of London Borough Local Authorities, to support a new digital mental wellbeing service for Londoners. In just two years, one of the great ideas presented at TEDxNHS is becoming a mainstream innovation that is changing people’s live.

2020 Update: Big Health and NHS England have partnered to protect the mental health of over 1 million NHS staff by offering Sleepio and Daylight at no cost throughout the pandemic. Their digital therapeutics make evidence-based cognitive-behavioral techniques available via mobile and web without the need for human contact.
